Gencom Group Buys InterContinental Miami for a Reported $300M

By Nathan Snyder, Editor, The Hotelier Times
A Gencom-led partnership with Miami-based White Bridge Capital has bought the 652-key InterContinental Miami, the 34-story waterfront hotel at 100 Chopin Plaza. The buyers did not disclose the price. Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the matter, put it at about $300 million. On 652 keys, that works out to roughly $460,000 a key, which is our math on a reported price, not a confirmed figure.
The Deal
Gencom announced the acquisition in a Business Wire release on Oct. 30. Bisnow reported that the seller was an entity tracing to Strategic Hotels & Resorts and that this is the hotel’s first trade in more than 20 years.
Strategic is owned by China’s Dajia Insurance Group, according to Bloomberg and Commercial Observer. That makes this another gateway-city hotel moving from a foreign institutional owner to a domestic buyer group backed by family-office equity.
Gencom declined to disclose the price, Bisnow reported. Bloomberg’s figure of about $300 million comes from a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified. As of this writing, no 2026 Miami-Dade deed showing the consideration has been located; the county’s official records index had been updated through Oct. 26. The financing has not been disclosed. No lender or loan amount appears in the buyer release or in the trade coverage.
Who Bought It
Gencom is the lead buyer. Alessandro Colantonio, its chief investment officer, called the hotel “a significant addition to Gencom’s portfolio” in a market he described as “dynamic and globally recognized,” according to the release as reported by Bisnow and Hotel Management. Bisnow and Hotel Management note Gencom’s South Florida history, including the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne and Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove. This is Gencom’s second InterContinental-branded hotel after the InterContinental New York Times Square.
White Bridge Capital is a Miami-based real estate investment and lending advisory firm that works with international family offices. According to the release, White Bridge and its family-office partners “contributed a significant portion of the equity capital for the acquisition.” The split was not disclosed. Bisnow says White Bridge advises wealthy families primarily from Latin America and Southern Europe. Bloomberg described the Miami purchase as the two firms’ third joint hospitality deal in the past year.

The Hotel
The InterContinental Miami sits on the water at 100 Chopin Plaza, near Bayfront Park, Brickell and PortMiami. It has 652 rooms, including 22 suites, plus 35 meeting rooms and more than 90,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, according to Hotel Management and the buyer release. Amenities include a rooftop pool with cabanas, a spa and the Club InterContinental Lounge. Commercial Observer and county property records put the opening at 1983; the Miami Herald’s coverage cites 1982.
Older records list 641 rooms, including Strategic’s 2005 acquisition release. Current buyer materials and all of this week’s coverage use 652.
The seller recently renovated the guest rooms, the Club InterContinental Lounge, the pool cabanas and the SkyLawn outdoor event space, according to Bisnow and Hotel Management. That changes the buyers’ plan. Ignasi Puig, Gencom’s managing director of acquisitions, said in the release that the completed renovation lets the group focus on strengthening revenue across rooms, meetings and events, and dining.
Colantonio told the Miami Herald there will be no major remodeling. He said a “more targeted renovation, likely in the public spaces,” is planned, that the room count will stay the same, that there will be no condo or residence conversion, and that the hotel will continue with the same management. “It’s great real estate,” he told the Herald. Bisnow reported that the planned upgrades focus on the lobby and food and beverage.
